MSJ hires women's basketball coach
Ashley Bland begins her first season this winter as the Mount’s women’s basketball head coach. Bland was most recently at NCAA Division III Denison University, in Granville, Ohio, as an assistant women’s basketball coach, a position she held for five seasons. During her five seasons the Big Red won four NCAC tournament championships and one regular season championship. She has also coached numerous All-Conference players, along with two, NCAC conference Players of the Year.
Prior to coaching at Denison, Bland spent three years as head women’s basketball coach at Flagler College, and was the school’s director of student services. She also was the head women’s golf coach at Denison for four years.
She has a bachelor degree in physical education from Kent State University (1998) and master of art degree in sport and recreation management from Kent State (2000). In addition she held an athletic director internship at Norton (Ohio) High School and was a student basketball coach at Kent State (1999).
While at Flagler, Bland won Southeast Independent Region Coach of the Year (2004), hosted and won the Southeast Independent Region (2004), placed second in the Florida Sun Conference (2003 and 2004), recruited/coached the Southeast Independent Region Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year (2003) and (2004), and Freshman of the Year (2004), and recruited and coached three Florida Sun All-Conference Players (2003 and 2004).
She was a four-year letter winner in women’s basketball at Kent State University and a Phi Epsilon Kappa Academic Excellence Award Winner at Kent State (1998).
