Saints Defeat B-W, 11-10, for First Win of Season
(WINTER HAVEN, Fla.) - The Thomas More College baseball team won its first game of the season today (Wednesday, March 10, 2010) as it defeated Baldwin-Wallace College, 11-10, on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning in the team's third game of the Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven Florida.
With the win, the Saints improve to 1-2 overall and with the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-4.
The Yellow Jackets built a 5-1 lead before Thomas More had a six-run fifth inning to go ahead 7-5. After B-W tied the game with two runs in the top of the ninth inning, the Saints scored the game-winner in the bottom of the frame.
At the plate, the Saints were led by senior right fielder Marty Kersting (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) who went three-for-four with a home run, two runs batted-in and three runs scored. Also with a good day at the plate was senior center fielder T.J. Souder (Mason, Ohio/Mason), who was two-for-four, freshman outfielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic),who was two-for-three with four RBI and a triple and freshman David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), who was two-for-four with a double.
Freshman David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) came on in relief in the top of the ninth inning with no outs and bases loaded and got the Yellow Jackets to hit into a double play and then got the next batter out to earn the win.

Saints Splits a Pair of Games on Day Three of Rebel Games
(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team split a pair of games today (Wednesday, March 10, 2010) on the third day of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The Saints defeated The Catholic University of America, 6-1, in the first game, but then fell, 3-1, to Aurora University.
With the split the Saints are now 2-4 on the season.
In the first game of the day, Thomas More scored four in the first, one in the second and one in the fifth, while Catholic could only score one in the first as the Saints won, 6-1.
At the plate the Saints were led by sophomore first baseman Brittany Wegman (West Harrison, Ind./East Central), who went three-for-four with a home run, a double, two runs scored and a run batted-in. Freshman right fielder Alexis Thompson (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) also had a good game offensively as she was two-for-four with a double and three RBI.
Earning the win in the pitching circle was junior Samantha Ladenburger (Felicity, Ohio/Felicity-Franklin), who pitched a complete game giving up one run (earned) on five hits while striking out five.
Against Aurora, the Saints fell behind 3-0 after two innings as Aurora scored two in the first and one the second. The Saints cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the fourth, but couldn't score the rest of the way as Aurora held on for the 3-1 win.
Offensively, junior second baseman Amanda Minor (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) led the Saints as she went three-for-three with a run scored, while junior shortstop was one-for-three with a RBI.
In the pitching circle, freshman Lydia Duvall (Highland Heights, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) suffered the loss as she pitched four innings giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits. Junior Dana Bors (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) pitched three innings of relief giving up no runs on three hits and striking out three.

Saints Drop Two Games on Day Two of Rebel Games
(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team dropped two games today (Tuesday, March 9, 2010) on the second day of the Reble Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida as it fell, 2-1, to Adrian College and 7-2 to Bluffton University.
With the two losses the Saints fall to 1-3 on the season.
In the first game of the day against Adrain, the Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead after three innings, but the Bulldogs the scored one in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 2-1 win.
In the pitching mound, junior Dana Bors (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) suffered the loss as she pitched five innings giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out three. Freshman Erin Dickman (Reading, Ohio/Reading) pitched one inning of relief.
At the plate, the saints were led by senior center fielder Stephanie Stadtmiller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), who went one-for-two with a walk and a run scored.\
Against Bluffton, the Beavers led 2-0 after three innings with a run in the second and third, then the Saints cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the five. Bluffton then came right back and scored in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 3-1, but Thomas More answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2. Bluffton responded with four runs in the top of the seventh and the Saints couldn't answer and Bluffton earned the 7-2 win.
At the plate, Stadtmiller again led the Saints as she went two-for-four with a stolen base.
Dickman suffered the loss in the pitching circle as she went six and one-third innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and striking out two. Freshman Lydia Duvall (Highland Heights, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) pitched two-thirds of an inning of relief and allowed two runs on three hits and struck out one.

Saints Fall, 6-2, to No. 10-ranked RPI
(AUBURNDALE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College baseball team fell, 6-2, to 10th-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) today (Tuesday, March 9, 2010) on the second day of the Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Florida.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 0-2 on the season and with the win RPI improves to 4-0.
RPI led 4-0 after two innings and then the Saints cut the lead to 4-2 after three innings, but then RPI scored two in the fourth and then held the Saints scoreless the rest of the way for the 6-2 win.
On the mound, senior Kyle Wewe (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) suffered the loss as he pitched five innings giving up six runs (all earned) on nine hits, while striking out one and walking one. Then junior Michael Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), freshman Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and junior Adam Leach (Carlisle, Ohio/Carlisle) each pitched an inning of relief and combined to hold RPI hitless the final three innings.
At the plate the Saints were led by junior left fielder Max Robbins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), who went two-for-three with a double, while junior third baseman Sam Schmeltzer (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) was one-for-four with two runs batted-in.

Saints Open Season With a Split on Day One of Rebel Games in Florida
(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team opened the 2010 campaign today (Monday, March 8, 2010) as it split a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The Saints fell, 10-0, to No. 5-ranked Coe College in the opener, but then defeated Albion College, 5-4, in the second game.
With the split the Saints are 1-1 on the season.
In the first game against Coe, the Kohawks scored two in the first, five in the second, one in the third and two in the second, while their pitching held the Saints to only one hit.
In the pitching circle, junior Samantha Ladenburger (Felicity, Ohio/Felicity-Franklin) suffered the loss as she allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits in two innings of work. Senior third baseman Lisa Wiesman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) picked up the Saints' lone hit of the game.
In the second game of the day the Saints jumped out to a 5-0 lead after six and a half innings as they scored two in the third, two in the fourth and one in the seventh. Albion tried to put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but it came up short as it could only plate four runs and the Saints earned the 5-4 win.
Freshman Lydia Duvall (Highland Heights, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) earned her first collegiate win the in the pitching circle as she pitched all seven innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on three hits and striking out one.
The Saints were led at the plate by Wiesman, who went three-for-four with a run batted-in and Ladenburger, who went two-for-four with two RBI. Sophomore first baseman Brittany Wegman (West Harrison, Ind./East Central) was one-for-four with a double and a run scored.

Thomas More Baseball Falls, 10-5, to Mount Union in Season Opener
(AUBURNDALE, Fla.) - Senior catcher Nick Zeiser (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Thomas More College fell, 10-5, to Mount Union College today (Monday, March 8, 2010) in the first game of the Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Florida.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 0-1 and with the win, the Purple Raiders improve to 3-1.
Mount Union took a 2-0 lead after the third inning as it scored one in the second and one in the third. then in the fourth the Saints took a 4-2 lead when sophomore first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) scored on a SAC fly from sophomore second baseman Andrew Clements (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) and then Zeiser hit the three-run home run down the left field line. Mount Union would then score five in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the eighth to lead 10-4 after eight innings. Thomas More then scored a run in the top of the eighth when Thole scored on a SAC fly by junior left fielder Max Robbins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), but it wasn't enough as the Purple Raiders wont he game, 10-5.
At the the plate the Saints were led by Thole, who went two-for-four with two runs scored and senior right fielder Marty Kersting (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), who went two-for-five.

No. 13 Saints Fall, 80-64, to No. 6 Washington in NCAA Second Round
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 13th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team fell, 80-64, to sixth-ranked Washington University - St. Louis tonight (Saturday, March 6, 2010) in NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Tournament Second Round game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints end the season at 26-4 and with the win, the Bears improve to 25-2 and advance to play Mount Union College in the Sectional Semifinals next Friday (March 12) at a place and time to be announced tomorrow by the NCAA.
Washington raced out to a 29-14 lead when Claire Schaeperkoetter made two free-throws with 8:22 to play in the opening half. Thomas More answered with a 14-4 run to cut the lead to 33-28 when freshman guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a jumper with 2:47 to play in the first half. The Bears then closed out the half on an 8-2 run to lead 41-30 at halftime.
The Bears opened the second half on a 28-17 run capped by an old fashioned three-point play by Jaimie McFarlin to extend the lead to 69-47 with 10:37 to play in the game. Thomas More then put together a 17-9 run to cut the lead to 78-64 with 1:02 left in the game when freshman guard Samantha Van Atta (Waynesville, Ohio/Waynesville) converted an old fashion three-point play, but it wasn't enough as Washington went onto the 80-64 victory.
Thomas More was led in scoring and rebounding by junior forward Amy Stultz (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas), who had 12 points and seven rebounds. Joining her in double-figure scoring was freshman guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) with 11 and senior guard Sarah Yeiser (Paris, Ky./Paris) with 10 points in her final collegiate game.

Saints Defeat Fontbonne, 68-49, in NCAA First Round
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Freshman guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored a team-high 14 points to lead the 13th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a, 68-49, win over Fontbonne University tonight (Friday, March 5, 2010) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Tournament at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 26-3 and advance to play No. 6 ranked Washington University - St. Louis in a second round game at the Connor Convocation Center tomorrow (March 6) at 7 p.m. With the loss, the Griffins end the season at 18-10.
Thomas More raced out to a 15-3 lead with 13:28 to play in the first half when senior guard Sarah Yeiser (Paris, Ky./Paris) made a layup. Fontbonne then responded with a 17-12 run capped by a foul shot by Rana Boyd with 1:39 to play in the opening half to cut the lead to 27-20. The Saints then closed out the half on a 2-0 run to extend the lead to 29-20 at halftime when junior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) with five-seconds to play in the half.
The Saints opened the second half on a 21-7 run to extend the lead to 50-33 when Yeiser made a three-pointer at the 11:28 mark of the second half. The Griffin then answered with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 50-37 when Ava Johnson made a layup with 9:57 to play in the game. Thomas More came right back with an 11-3 lead to take a 61-40 lead when Tolliver made a three-pointer with 5:23 to play in the game. The Griffins closed out the game on a 9-7 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 68-49.
Joining Tolliver in double-figure scoring was Yeiser with 10 points. Dickman led all players on the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Katie Tierney (Villa Hills, Notre Dame Academy) led the team in assists with seven, while Tolliver led the team in steals with three and Dickman recorded three blocks.

Four Saints Named All-PAC
(WEXFORD, Pa.) - Thomas More College had four men's basketball student-athletes named All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on Tuesday (March 2, 2010) by the Conference's head coaches.
Senior power forward Daniel McKeehan (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) was named to the first team, junior center Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) was named second team and junior forward Aaron Miller (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) and sophomore shooting guard Daniel Neeley (Warsaw, Ky./Owen County) were both named honorable mention.
McKeehan led the team in scoring with 15.6 points per game, was second in rebound with 4.9 rebounds per game and also led the team in assists with 60 and steals with 63. He also led the team in field goal percentage as he shot 63.2 percent from the field. Muse led the PAC in block shots with 58, while he averaged 7.9 ppg., 4.0 rpg., and had 42 assists and 31 steals. Miller led the Saints on the boards with 5.5 rpg, was second in scoring at 12.7 ppg, and had 53 steals and 28 assists. Neeley was third on the team in scoring with 10.0 ppg., second in assists with 55 and was third in steals with 52.
The Saints finished the season 21-7 overall and 9-3 in the PAC and won a share of their second straight PAC regular season title.

McKeehan Named Jostens Trophy Finalist
(SALEM, Va.) - Thomas More College power forward Daniel McKeehan (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) has been selected as one of the 10 finalists for the highly prestigious 2010 Jostens Trophy.
The Josten Trophy is a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem, Virginia, to honor the most outstanding men's Division III basketball player of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academic prowess and community service. The trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded Division III student-athlete. This year's trophy marks the 13th year the ward has been presented.
McKeehan helped lead his team to a 21-7 record and a share of its second straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season title. He played in all 28 games for the Saints, including 26 starts and led the team in scoring with a 15.6 points per game average. McKeehan also had a team-leading .632 field goal percentage while averaging 4.9 rebounds per game. A solid all-around player, he also was the team leader with 64 assists and 63 steals.
In the classroom, McKeehan carries a perfect 4.00 grade point average with a double major in Economics and Business Finance. Last week he was named the College Division ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Basketball Player of the Year by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Thomas More to Host NCAA First and Second Rounds
(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - Thomas More College has been chosen by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament on March 5-6, 2010. Thomas More will be hosting Fontbonne University, Maryville (Tenn.) College and Washington University-St. Louis. Sixth-ranked Washington will play Maryville in the first game Friday (March 5) at 5 p.m. and 16th-ranked Thomas More will play Fontbonne in the second game at 7 p.m. The two winners will then play at 7 p.m. on Saturday (March 6) in the second round.

Saints Fall, 78-61, to Grove City in PAC Championship Game
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Despite a game-high 22 points from senior power forward Daniel McKeehan (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami), the second-seeded Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 78-61, to top-seeded Grove City College tonight (Saturday, February, 27, 2010) in the championship game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament at Grove City College Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Wolverines improve to 19-8 and earns the Conference's automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division III Tournament. With the loss, the Saints fall to 21-7 and must wait until 10:30 a.m. on Monday (March 1) to see if they are awarded one of the 19 at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The brackets will be announced at that time on the NCAA Championship web site at www.ncaa.com.
Grove City jumped out to an early 20-4 lead when Joe McCoy made a three-pointer with 12:31 to play in the first half. Thomas More responded with a 14-4 run to cut the lead to 24-18 when junior forward Eddie Brown (Hamilton, Ohio/Stephen T. Badin) made a three-pointer at the 6:15 mark of the opening half. The Wolverines then closed out the half on a 7-2 capped by a three-pointer by Cody Fleeger with 1:00 left in the half to extend the lead to 31-20 at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half on a 19-13 run capped by a layup by junior shooting guard Johnny Bovard (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) to cut the lead to 44-39 with 12:44 to play in the game. Grove City answered with a 17-4 run to extend the lead to 61-43 when Luke Tomaselli made a layup with 6:46 left in the game. Thomas More then cut the lead to 61-48 when Daniel McKeehan made two free-throws with 6:11 to play in the game. That would be as close as the Saints would come as Grove City closed out the game on a 17-13 run to earn the 78-61 victory.
On top of leading the Saints in scoring, McKeehan led the team on the boards with seven rebounds and in steals with six. The only other Saint reaching double-figures was Brown with 10 points.

16th-ranked Saints Defeat Westminster to Claim Fourth Straight PAC Championshipand Advance to NCAA Tournament
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The top-seeded and 16th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team won its fourth straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship with a 77-67 win over fourth-seeded Westminster College in the PAC Tournament Championship game today (Saturday, February 27, 2010) at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win the Saints improve to 25-3 and earn the Conference's automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division III Tournament. The NCAA brackets will be released on Monday (March 1) at 12:30 p.m. on the internet at www.ncaa.com. With the loss, the Titans end the season at 13-15.
Thomas More raced out to a 15-2 lead when junior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) made a jumper at the 16:25 mark of the first half. The Titans responded with a 14-8 run capped by a layup by Katie Hughes to cut the lead to 23-16 with 12:32 to play in the opening half. The Saints came right back with a 12-5 run to extend the lead to 35-21 when freshman guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a layup with 7:12 to playing in the first half. Westminster then closed out the half on an 11-7 run to cut the lead to 42-32 at halftime when Hughes made two free-throws.
Westminster opened the second half on a 10-5 run to cut the lead to 47-42 with 16:17 to play in the game when Kaitlin McCarthy made a layup. Thomas More answered with a 21-8 run to extend the lead to 68-50 when junior forward Dana Bors (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) made one-of-two free-throws with 7:48 left in the game. Westminster closed out the half on a 17-9 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 77-67.
Dickman led all scorers with 20 points. Tolliver joined her in double-figures with 11. Dickman led the team on the boards with six rebounds, while junior forward Amy Stultz (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas) led the team in assists with six.

Tierney Scores Career-High 18 Points to Lead Saints to a 68-40 Win over Chatham and Advance to PAC Championship Game
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Sophomore guard Katie Tierney (Villa Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) scored a career-high 18 points to led the top-seeded and 16th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 68-40 win over sixth-seeded Chatham University tonight (Friday, February 26, 2010) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament semifinal game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 24-3 and advance to Saturday's (February 27) championship game where they will play fourth-seeded Westminster College, who defeated second-seeded and 17th-ranked Washington & Jefferson College, 64-61, in the first semifinal game of the night. The game will tip-off at 2 p.m. inside the Connor Convocation Center. With the loss, the Cougars end the season at 11-16.
Chatham jumped out to an early 13-10 lead when Kayla Hilko made a jumper with 14:24 to play in the opening half. The Saints then outscored the Cougars, 22-2, the rest of the half to lead 32-15 at halftime when freshman guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a three-pointer with 25-seconds to play in the first half.

Chatham scored the final three points of the game, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More earned the 68-40 victory.

McKeehan Leads Saints to an 88-73 Win Over Bethany to Advance to Championship Game
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior power forward Daniel McKeehan (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the second-seeded Thomas More College men's basketball team to an 88-73 win over third-seeded Bethany College tonight (Thursday, February 25, 2010) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament semifinal game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saint improve to 21-6 overall and advance to the PAC Championship game, where they will play top-seeded Grove City College at 7 p.m. on Saturday (February 27) at the Grove City College Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania. With the loss, the Bison fall to 18-8.
Bethany raced out to a 22-14 lead with 11:11 to play in the opening half when Dustin Opalka made a layup. The Saints responded with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 24-21 when junior shooting guard Kurt Bovard (Villa Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) made a three-pointer with 9:59 to play in the opening half. The Bison came right back with a 7-1 run capped by a three-pointer by Jonas Ankrom with 4:34 to play in the half to extend the lead to 31-22. Thomas More answered with a 12-5 run to cut the lead to 36-34 with 56-seconds to play in the first half when junior forward Eddie Brown (Hamilton, Ohio/Stephen T. Badin) made a layup. Bethany then closed out the half on a 3-0 run to extend the lead to 39-34 at halftime when Ankrom converted an old fashioned three-point play with 38-seconds to play in the half.
The Bison opened the second half on a 10-8 run to extend the lead to 49-42 when Opalka made a three-pointer with 14:37 to play in the game. The Bison's Nick Wilcox then converted an old fashioned three-point play with 3:06 to play to cut the lead to 77-65, but Thomas More then put together a 7-1 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 84-66 when senior point guard Romell Salone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) made two free-throws with 1:29 to play in the game. The lead was enough as the Saints went on to the 88-73 win.
McKeehan had three other Saints join him in double-figure scoring as Salone and Kurt Bovard each had 14 points and junior center Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) finished with 10. McKeehan led the team on the boards with a game-high eight rebounds, while Brown led the team in assists with five and Salone and junior forward Aaron Miller (Lexington, Ky./Henry) both led the team in steals with three each.

Stafford Records First Double-Double to Lead Saints to an 81-71 Win Over Waynesburg to Advance to PAC Semifinals
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Sophomore center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to recorded his first career double-double and lead the second-seeded Thomas More College men's basketball team to an 84-71 win over seventh-seeded Waynesburg University tonight (Tuesday, February 23, 2010) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal round game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 20-6 overall and advance to PAC Championship Tournament semifinals, where they will host third-seeded Bethany College at 7 p.m. on Thursday (February 25) at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets end the season at 2-22 overall.
Waynesburg raced out to a 6-0 lead when Jeff Young made a layup with 17:46 to play in the opening half. Thomas More responded with a 33-15 run to take a 33-21 lead with 3:15 to play in the first half when freshman point guard Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) made a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets then closed out the half on a 7-3 run to cut the Saints' lead to 36-28 at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half on a 30-18 run capped by two free-throws by junior forward Aaron Miller (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) to extend the lead to 66-46 with 10:13 to play in the game. Waynesburg responded with a 23-10 run to cut the lead to 76-69 with 1:49 to play in the game when James Allenby made two free-throws. That would be as close as the Yellow Jackets would come as Thomas More closed out the game on an 8-2 run capped by two free-throws by Hamm with 34-seconds to play in the game for the 84-71 victory.
Joining Stafford in double-figure scoring were Miller with a game-high 19 points, junior shooting guards Johnny Bovard (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and Kurt Bovard (Villa Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) with 13 and 12 points respectively. Miller led the team in steals with seven, while senior point guard Romell Salone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) led the team with four assists.

16th-Ranked Saints Defeat Thiel, 75-51, to Advance to PAC Semifinals
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 16th-ranked and top-seeded Thomas More College women's basketball team had five players score in double-figures as it defeated eighth-seed Thiel College, 75-51, tonight (Tuesday, February 23, 2010) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal round game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 23-3 overall and advance to the semifinals where they will host sixth-seeded Chatham University at 8 p.m. on Friday (February 23) at the Connor Convocation Center. Second-seeded Washington & Jefferson College will play fourth-seed Westminster College in the first semifinal game at 6 p.m. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets end the season at 6-19 overall.
Thiel's Kelly Muffley scored the first basket of the game at the 19:02 mark of the first half to give the Tomcats a 2-0 lead, but the Saints responded with a 24-0 run capped by a three-pointer by senior guard Sarah Yeiser (Paris, Ky./Paris) with 12:54 to play in the opening half for a 24-2 lead. The Tomcats answered with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 24-8 with 10:26 left in the first half when Ashley Davis made a jumper. Thomas More then put together a 13-4 run to extend the lead to 37-12 when sophomore forward Whitney Cundiff (Alexandria, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made a layup at the 4:24 mark of the first half. Thiel would close out the half on a 12-6 run to cut the Saints' lead to 43-24 at halftime.
Thomas More opened the second half on a 30-19 run to extend its lead to 73-43 with 3:34 to play in the game when freshman forward Rebecca Leffel (Troy, Ohio/Miami East) made two free-throws. Thiel would then close out the game on a 9-2 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More posted the 75-51 win.
Leading the five Saints in double-figures was freshman guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) with a game-high 12 points. Joining her in double-digits were sophomore guard Katie Tierney (Villa Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy), freshman guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) and freshman guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) with 11 points each and junior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) with 10 points. Dickman led the team on the boards with a game-high nine rebounds, while Tolliver led the team with six steals and junior forward Amy Stultz (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas) led the team in assists with five.
